How to Transfer Windows User Settings To a New Account

Instructions

  1. Backing up Settings

    • 1
Delete everything off your flash stick/card before proceeding. You'll just be transferring settings, so you won't need much room. But this way the storage will remain uncluttered as you work.
    • 2
Open the Start menu from the bottom left of your screen. Go to "Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools" and select "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard."
    • 3
Insert the flash stick/card into the computer you're transferring from.
    • 4
Click Next on the wizard's screen and select "Old Computer."
    • 5
Select "Floppy Drive or Other Removable Media" and scroll down to select your flash stick/card.
    • 6
Select "Settings Only" in the next window. You can choose to transfer files as well, but you'd most likely need a much bigger flash stick/card for that, depending on how many files you have.

    Transferring Settings to New Computer

    • 7
Remove your flash memory from the old computer and insert it into the new one.
    • 8
Open the Start menu from the bottom left of your screen. Go to "Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools" and select "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard."
    • 9
Select "New Computer." This is the computer you want to transfer settings to.
    • 10
Select "I Don't Need A Wizard Disk." You already collected all the necessary files in the previous section.
    • 11
Select "Floppy Drive or Other Removable Media" and scroll down to your flash stick/card.
    • 12
Click "Next" and the wizard will take care of the rest.
